Medical Fitness
Medical Fitness and what they mean
Update: How pre-enlistees are medically classified will be more precise to better characterise pre-enlistees' medical fitness. This will enable each and every national serviceman to contribute more meaningfully during their National Service.
Learn more about the announcement on Refreshed Medical Classification System (MCS).
Who will be affected by the refreshed Medical Classification System?
Pre-enlistees who enlist before Oct 2027 will continue to receive a PES status following medical screening.
Pre-enlistees enlisting from Oct 2027 onwards will be graded under the refreshed medical classification system. Medical screening for these pre-enlistees will commence from end-Jun 2026 onwards.

Medical fitness status
The medical fitness status is assigned based on your medical condition and is one of the considerations to determine your vocation suitability during your National Service (NS) period. Should your medical fitness status change due to your medical conditions during your NS period, you may be reassigned to a different vocation or appointment accordingly.
You will be notified to view details of your medical fitness results, including your medical exemptions via OneNS, about 1 month after your medical screening appointment, if you are not required to attend any further medical review.
